The gospel for Easter’s seventh Sunday is always taken from the long prayer Jesus prays for his followers in John’s gospel on the night before his death, and always includes Jesus’ desire that his followers will be one as he and the Father are one. This oneness is not mere doctrinal agreement or institutional unity, but mutual abiding, interpenetrating life, mutual love, and joy. El evangelio del séptimo domingo de Pascua siempre se toma de la larga oración que Jesús hace por sus seguidores en el evangelio de Juan la noche antes de su muerte, y siempre incluye el deseo de Jesús de que sus seguidores sean uno como él y el Padre son uno. Esta unidad no es un mero acuerdo doctrinal o unidad institucional, sino una vida mutua, amor y alegría interpenetrantes.
