Hace tres semanas escuchamos la confesión de fe de Pedro, tal como se relata en el evangelio de Juan. Esta semana escuchamos la versión de Marcos, cuando Pedro dice: “Tú eres el Mesías”. En Juan, el obstáculo es la invitación de Jesús a comer su carne, entregada para la vida del mundo. En Marcos también el escándalo tiene que ver con las palabras de Jesús sobre su propia muerte venidera, y aquí el propio Pedro tropieza con las palabras de Jesús. Pero Jesús es ungido (el significado de mesías) en Marcos solo en el camino a la cruz (14:3); por lo que nosotros somos ungidos en el bautismo con la señal de la cruz. Today we hear James warn against selfish ambition, while the disciples quarrel over which one of them is the greatest. Jesus tells them the way to be great is to serve. Then, to make it concrete, he puts in front of them a flesh-and-blood child. We are called to welcome the children God puts in front of us, to make room for them in daily interaction, and to give them a place of honor in the assembly.
